Pine Island, Florida Cruise Port

Pine Island lies off Florida’s Gulf of Mexico side. Located in Lee County toward the top half of the state, it’s a long, thin landmass well separated from the mainland, the largest island in Florida, and the 118^th largest in the United States. The island is only about a 30-minute car ride from Fort Myers via bridge, but is an entirely different kind of place. This oasis is all about the quiet, offering peaceful fishing, and leisurely kayaking or canoeing. The natural, flora-filled environment gives the area a secluded feel and fits the moniker of Pine Island perfectly. There are many groves throughout the island bearing bounties such as numerous palms, various tropical plants, and a good amount of delicious fruits. Serious birdwatchers often flock to the Matlacha Pass National Wildlife Refuge which is a state-owned passage of land being restored to its natural state as a habitat for birds.

• The consistently growing number of bird species found in the wildlife refuge includes, but is not limited to, ospreys, herons, roseate spoonbills, egrets, ibises, hawks, bald eagles, owls, and many pleasant songbirds.
   
• A quaint place to stay on the island is the Serenity Bay Cottages. This apartment-style motel is located right on the water and offers hotel amenities along with fishing, kayaking, and a seaside fire pit.
   
• The Old Fish House Marina is always in abundance of fresh local seafood in their market and restaurant. There’s also boat docking, and gas fill-ups available upon request.
   
• Gulf Coast Kayak offers equipment for rent for experienced water adventurers, as well as kayak and stand up paddle board lessons.
