Newhaven, Connecticut Cruise Port

New Haven is a coastal city in Connecticut best known as the home of Yale, one of eight Ivy League schools in the United States. The nearby harbor is located on the northern side of the Long Island Sound and is therefore officially part of the New York metropolitan area. New Haven has the historic honor of being the first planned city in the New World and therefore is brimming with history in every corner. It was also the first city with planned tree planting which included many large elms. This led to the stoic, cosmopolitan area being nicknamed “The Elm City.” New Haven is well known for its cuisine, and while there are many prestigious restaurants to match the panache of the local college, they are most known for their pizza, which some critics have dubbed one of the best in the country. The city has culture to spare with many museums, beautiful chapels, and outstanding parks.

• The Yale University Art Gallery is the oldest college art museum in America. The more than 200,000 holdings are made up of various forms of art from ancient civilizations all the way to the present.
   
• Yale’s Peabody Museum of Natural History is an enormous structure jam-packed with learning for the whole family. Their large bird collection is possibly the world’s largest.
   
• The Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library has a massive collection of first-edition and rare books and manuscripts. Visitors are welcomed to look at the books and learn the exciting histories of select volumes.
   
• The lovely and majestic East Rock Park offers visitors a wide variety of trails ranging in difficulty and a good number of open spaces, great for dates or family outings.
