Muara, Vietnam Cruise Port

Muara is a coastal port town that lies on the easternmost tip of northern Brunei, or Brunei Darussalam, as the country is officially called. The port is the only deep water port in the country, allowing most ships to dock directly on site. It is part of the Brunei-Muara District, and despite having no municipal body, has a population just below 50,000 people. Prior to 1900, Muara was a humble fishing town. However, after the turn of the 20^th century, expansions in coal mining and other old-world vocations brought more inhabitants and industrialization. The mine burnt out by the 1920s and remained closed throughout Brunei’s Japanese occupation during World War II. In 1984, Brunei became an independent, sovereign nation, separating itself from the British Empire. Tourism has improved since their independence as travelers from around the world come to see the town’s marvelous beaches and cultural landmarks.

• Looking out into the South China Sea, Pelumpong Spit is a relaxing area that is primarily used for cookouts, hiking or a variety of sanctioned watersports.
   
• The Taman Peranginan Kampong Parit is a charming little park with many paths amongst gorgeous trees and flowers, many of which are native to the surrounding area.
   
• The 1945 Brunei-Australia Memorial is a serene war memorial surrounded by a quaint garden. This is a perfect place to reflect or simply enjoy nature.
   
• The Oceanic Dive Center offers boat rides out into the waters, as well as scuba excursions for anyone from novice to experienced divers.
