Morehead City, North Carolina Cruise Port

Founded in 1857, Morehead City is one of the oldest towns in North Carolina and is full of cultural history to prove it. What began as an industrial port town was economically desecrated during the Civil War, but was revitalized by tourism in the 1880s and is now the perfect port on a cruise down the Atlantic coast. Today, the town is still a popular tourist destination, but has not lost the “old-town” charm that garnered it notoriety. There is so much to do in Morehead City, check out a few of our favorites:

  • No hair? No problem! Morehead City plays host to an annual “Bald is Beautiful” convention, and signage can be seen throughout the town encouraging the hairstyle.

  • Fishermen from far and wide gather in Morehead City for the pristine waters and the record-sized blue marlins off the North Carolina coast.

  • Scuba dive to some interesting locations, including a German submarine that serves as an artificial reef, home to vibrant marine life.

  • Take a stroll through the center of the town, where some of the shops and eateries have been family run since the town’s inception.
