Milazzo, Sicily Cruise Port

Milazzo is a port town and commune in southern Italy, situated near the Strait of Messina and the Sicilian Metropolitan City of Messina. Its population is a little over 31,000, making it the third largest city in the Messina province, or Sicily Island. Milazzo sit on a peninsula known as Capo di Milazzo, and was originally called Mylae by the ancient Greeks who settled there around 700 BC. The area is rife with historical monuments celebrating the Greek people and onwards. Today, the lower portion of town has a number of gaudy noble buildings from the neoclassic era. Regular ferries bring visitors to the popular Aeolian Islands to the north which consists of Palermo and Naples. The town’s economy runs on agriculture and fishing; however, tourism is what truly keeps the area afloat. Tours of Italy have always been popular and being aware of that, Milazzo is very amenable to its many guests.

• The Piscina di Venere is not a traditional “pool” as its name implies, but it is a quaint and comfortable swimming hole segregated by rocks from the cold and mighty ocean.
   
• The Castello di Milazzo is a stunning castle that represents layers of civilization. The architecture and natural views are amazing no matter which direction you look.
   
• Spiaggia di Ponente is a bustling beach with clear, peaceful water and many small stones in lieu of sand. While this isn’t the best beach for walking, the swimming is pretty fantastic.
   
• Aeolain Dolphin Research is a small company that will take visitors out to sea to view the many schools of dolphins in the area.
