Mandrogi, Russia Cruise Port

Since the time of Peter the Great, the north shore of Lake Ladoga has been home to many beautiful sites; one of them can be found on the left bank of the Svir River: the cruise port of Mandrogi, Russia. Also known as Mandrogy, Upper Mandrogi, and Verkhny Mandrogi, this small village was settled in the 18th century, whose commerce was centered on millwork and fishing. After World War II and the fall of the Soviet Union led to a loss of job opportunities, Russian investors restored the town and its buildings between 1996 and 1999, using traditional architecture and quaint cobblestone streets. A popular stop for tourists between St. Petersburg and Moscow, it’s not only a place to relive history, but artistic types can also check out (and participate in) various craft workshops and demonstrations. Little surprise that one of the most popular attractions here is the Museum of Russian Vodka. With more than 2,800 different types of vodka featured, you'll see displays that educate about vodka's various types of production and taste some flavors you may never have tried before.
Along with the handcrafted items in the village, the nearby ferry pier leads to the Fairytale Meadow. Here you'll find a collection of charming wooden sculptures that recreate scenes from Alexander Pushkin’s epic poem Ruslan and Ludmila.
The cute miniature zoo features native animals such as geese, bears, and quails. There’s also a moose farm – the only one to be found in the Russian northwest.
With a large list of activities to do, it might be hard to choose just a couple. Taking a horseback ride around the area is a great way to take in all of the sights more quickly, if time is a factor; if time allows, learning to paint traditional Matryoshka dolls or doing some fishing are just a couple available options.
