Lobito, Angola Cruise Port

Located on the southern Atlantic coast in the Benguela Province is the busy cruise port of Lobito, Angola. Tucked inside the Lobito Bay near the Catumbela Estuary, the city was built in 1843 by the Portuguese administration and is protected by a three mile long sandspit near one of Africa’s finest natural harbors. Fishing and tourism contributed to Lobito’s early successes, along with exporting agricultural produce. Not until Lisbon's Carnation Revolution in April of 1974 was Angola offered independence. A civil war within Angola shortly thereafter disrupted Lobito’s trade until the early 2000s, when the ensuing peace and stability allowed Lobito to finally start growing anew. With its sandy tropical beaches, fascinating architecture, and Portuguese-influenced cuisine, this is a city where you can see old and new working together in harmony – and attend a fabulous annual Carnival. Restinga do Lobito is one of the most attractive and bustling areas of the city, with its six miles of beaches, bars, and markets. There is plenty of outdoor seating so you can watch the ocean while you relax.
If you want just to visit beaches, there are several options. Along with the aforementioned Restinga, there are Cabaia and Compão; all of which are fairly close to residential areas.
If you're looking to travel up and down the coast, check out the historic Benguela Railway. Once nearly destroyed during the decades of war, it's being restored and runs from Lobito Bay to the eastern border.
Large game fishing is popular on the Angola coast, so charter a boat and go looking for the giant tarpon, which can weigh more than 200 pounds. Catches are usually released back into the wild – it's more about the adventure than actually keeping a trophy.
