Ko Adang, Thailand Cruise Port

Close to Ko Lipe Island, you'll find the cruise port of Ko (or Koh) Adang, Thailand; it's actually the second largest island located within the Tarutao National Marine Park (one of 51 islands in the park, in fact). Even with this designation, at around four miles long and three miles wide, it's a small area; there are only a few beaches, but plenty of coral reefs for divers and snorkelers to explore. One of the positives about its inclusion within the park is that the island has remained undeveloped and is a peaceful break from the modern world. A heaven on earth for nature lovers, there are areas for camping if an overnight stay is part of the cruise, and the reasonably-priced restaurant on the island serves basic Thai meals and beverages. With any kind of walking on Ko Adang – and there is a lot of walking – make sure you have good shoes. Check out the island's two waterfalls after hiking the jungle trails, including Ratana Waterfall and Pirate’s Falls; the latter was allegedly was a source of fresh water for pirates in days gone by.
For a little climb, take a walk from the main beach to check out Chado Cliff. The view from the top is breathtaking in itself, and if you're there between September and December, you may see some of the spots below where green turtles lay their eggs.
Birdwatchers will find many species of tropical birds to admire. Thanks to the relative peace and quiet of the island, it's easy to hear each of their distinctive calls. Along with common mynas and egrets, keep an eye out for koels and white-breasted eagles.
Of course, a rest on the pristine beach here is the perfect way to cap off a day full of exploration. The powder-white sands and crystal clear waters make for great swimming, and there are plenty of shade trees if you prefer looking at the view instead of sitting in the sun.
