Kamloops, British Columbia Cruise Port

Kamloops is a large community and a bustling city located where the two branches of the Thompson River merge. This metropolis with a population of over 90,000 is often referred to as the Tournament Capital of Canada. The city hosts more than 100 tournaments for a wide variety of sports every year and the events are held within numerous state-of-the-art sporting facilities. Like many places in Canada, Kamloops experiences generally cold winters and gets its share of snowfall. Winter sports, particularly in the coastal mountains, are a big draw during those months; however, during the rest of the year, the sporting events and breathtaking scenery tend to bring in even more tourists. The warmer months bring with them a variety of festivals celebrating local wines, beers, food, athletes, comedy, and their famous sockeye salmon. Other recreational activities in the area include biking, hockey, golf, and fishing.

• Riverside Park, located in the center of the city, is a spacious wilderness interwoven with a number of roads and paths. Many annual event runs take place here and always attract a sizeable crowd.
   
• Fewer than 10 minutes outside the city limits, the Monte Creek Ranch Winery is a pleasant getaway to learn about and sample the flavors of the locally harvested wines.
   
• With over 60 different animal breeds, the Kamloops Wildlife Park is an intriguing stop to view uncommon and common species alike while also serving as a sanctuary and rehabilitation facility to injured animals.
   
• The Pioneer Park and Beach is a quiet, well-maintained riverside park that’s a dog-friendly and a serene oasis where you can go to unwind.
