• Of course, there are plenty of beaches in Juan-les-Pins. Some private beaches won't appreciate just anyone plunking down their towel or beach chair. Some of the public options are Plage de la Gallice, which is a bit smaller but isolated from traffic noise, and Plage du Pont Dulys, which is big for water sports. The main beach is Grande Plage, which provides changing areas as well as a view of the mountains.
   
• There are plenty of opportunities for diving and snorkeling, whether you have your own equipment or need to rent some. Keep an eye out for octopus, eels, coral, and plenty of fish.
   
• For a break from the hot sun, Parc de la Pinede is a lovely little place for people watching and taking the kids. There are vast green spaces where you can meet a friendly squirrel or two, a large playground, and areas for cycling and skating.
   
• American Frank Jay Gould eventually moved to France and opened several French Riviera casinos and hotels; no wonder he has a square dedicated to him in Juan-les-Pins. Here you'll find plenty to do whether it's day or night, from gambling to fine food and drink.
