Ithaca (Ithaka), Greece Cruise Port

The smallest of the Greek Islands, lying to the West of the mainland of Greece, Ithaca is perhaps best known as the home of Odysseus, the hero in Homer’s Odyssey. Back then, the island was home to classic Greek mythology. Today, however, it is known for its pristine beaches and deep cultural significance. With a population of just over 3,000 people, Ithaca comes from humble beginnings, dating back to nearly 4000 B.C., showcased by some of the ruins on the island. These ruins, along with the Stavros Archaeological Museum, are some of the most popular tourist destinations for history buffs, while everyone else raves about the pebble beaches of Lootsa.

  • The Archaeological Museum in Stavros is known for a clay mask, dating back to the 1st century A.D., engraved with ancient Greek writings.

  • Explore the mythology on the island, centering on the 20-year hiatus of Odysseus and the many suitors of his wife, Penelope.

  • If you like beaches but hate getting sand in all your things, Gedaki Beach is for you. Crystal clear water and a pebble shoreline make for a very relaxing day.

  • If you liked Stonehenge, you’ll love a visit to Anoyi, where menhirs reach heights of over 24 feet
