Cowes, England UK Cruise Port

Located on the estuary of the River Medina, Cowes is a seaport town and civil parish on the Isle of Wight, England’s second most populous island. It is connected to its neighbor, East Cowes, by the Cowes Floating Bridge which is actually a ferry guided across the river by chains secured on both sides. Its port is known as the world’s premier yachting center because boaters from all over the world come to compete in Cowes Week, a series of prestigious sailing events held in early August. East Cowes has an Osborne House that was once a holiday home for Queen Victoria and her beloved Prince Albert, and was where the queen died in 1901. Much of the architecture in both towns is still influenced by the ornate style of this building, thanks to how much the prince admired it. The town also serves as the beginning of the Isle of White Coastal Path, a 70-mile public footpath.

• Scale the steep hill leading to Northwood Park for some of the most picturesque views of the region. Another reward for making it all the way to the top is a beautiful country house that’s been converted into a friendly café.
   
• Explore the magnificent Cowes Maritime Museum. Not far from the ferry, this sea-loving wonder contains two large rooms stuffed with boating history from humble beginning to the hover boats of the present and future.
   
• Stroll down the Shorelines of Cowes for a peaceful barrage of shops and stands featuring the typical touristy knick-knacks as well as artwork done by various local painters, sculptures, and photographers.
   
• Enjoy local brews and local flavor at the Cowes Ale House. Come for the food and company, and then be sure to hang around for the nighttime musical performances.
