Christiansted, St. Croix Cruise Port

With a population between 2,500 and 3,000 people, Christiansted is the largest town in the U.S. Virgin Islands’ St. Croix. The town is heavily rooted in the past since it contains the Christiansted National Historic Site. This fort, first constructed in 1738, has been restored to commemorate urban colonial development on the Virgin Islands. There are six historic buildings set up within the site, including Fort Christiansvaern, the Church of Our Lord Sabaoth Steeple Building, the Danish West India and Guinea Company Warehouse, the Scale House, Customs House, and the Government House. The town has preserved the many Danish-style buildings originally constructed by slaves hundreds of years ago. Despite their atrocious beginnings, the buildings are strong stone structures, decorated in vibrant pastel colors and red-tiled roofs. There are a number of scuba shops in town which promote the myriad of water activities that tourists can engage in along the town’s beautiful coastal beaches.

• The Salt River Bay National Historical Park and Ecological Preserve was dedicated in 1993 and is now the largest remaining mangrove forest in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
   
• Protestant Cay is a fantastic tropical beach nearby a hotel community that offers a wide variety of shopping, restaurants, cafes and interesting places to explore.
   
• ARTFarm is a popular vegetable farm, farmer’s market and artistic showcase that draws in visitors who wish to see the vibrant way of life of many local islanders.
   
• Cruzan Gardens is the island’s oldest and largest plant nursery. At over 14 acres, this generous garden has served the town and its people since 1963.
