Bunbury Cruise Port

The third largest city in Western Australia, Bunbury is a port that typically services the farming, mining, and timber industries here. Originally named Port Leschenault after French botanist Leschenault de La Tour, it started off as a military base (which didn't last long). Once the area was developed and its natural resources discovered, the town came into its own. With its population of 32,499 as of 2007, Bunbury is considered one of Australia's fastest growing cities. Bunbury's central business district can be found mostly on Victoria Street; Blair Street is the major road throughout the entire area, featuring plenty of shopping opportunities. One of the most striking features of the city center is the Bunbury Tower, also dubbed the "Milk Carton" because of its blue and white colors and distinctive shape. Listed below are a handful of our favorite experiences when visiting the cruise port of Bunbury, Australia:

  • If you ever longed to swim with dolphins, then the Dolphin Discovery Centre will get your pulse racing. Not only can you learn about these amazing mammals, but also interact with them during a Swim on the Wild Side tour. There's no shortage of activities here for any lover of marine life.

  • For different kinds of animals, visit the Bunbury Wildlife Park. Here you'll find a number of critters, including parrots, kangaroos, possums, owls, and more. The nearby Big Swamp wetlands features walking paths as well as viewing over 70 species of birds, mammals, reptiles, and fish.

  • Art enthusiasts will want to check out the Bunbury Regional Art Galleries (BRAG). Covering two floors, the can feature up to five exhibitions at a time. You'll also get to check out the work of local artists, as BRAG also showcases community exhibitions.

  • When it's time to peruse local food and drink, visit the Bunbury Farmers Market. Open seven days a week, you'll find not only produce grown by local farmers, but also pre-made meals including sushi, salads, fruit salad, muffins, pastries, quiches, soups and much more. You can also find a place for a bite at the onsite take away outlet.
