Brugge, Belgium Cruise Port

Brugge, which often uses the French spelling of Bruges, with slightly fewer than 120,000 residents, is the largest city and capital of the Belgium province of West Flanders. The main port of Bruges-Zebrugge is roughly ten miles from the city proper and is a large shipping port that allows some cruise ships to dock right on site. Because of the port’s industrial nature, passengers are forbidden from walking around and therefore buses are always at the ready to transport people to the terminal. This modern terminal has a visitor center, a number of lounges and restaurants, various shops, and even free wifi. Once in Bruges, tourists are often attracted to the medieval architecture motif throughout the entire city. Because so much of the original design work is still intact, it is one of the most well-preserved medieval towns in all of Europe. Bruges’ historic center became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the year 2000.

• The Markt is an unofficial town square that often has flower and produce markets amid its usual bustling activity. There are many authentic Belgian restaurants and shops, as well as an intriguing array of street performers.
   
• The De Halve Maan Brewery is an old-fashioned brewery and tap room that offers informative tours and samples. Less ambitious visitors can simply have a few beers in the tap room and relax.
   
• Minnewater Lake is a scenic, romantic setting, perfect for daytime and moonlit strolls. The lake is also a great place for nature lovers to hike and bird watch all year round.
   
• Burg Square is a classy, picturesque area filled with horse-drawn carriages and the amazing historic center. There is also a weekly market offering food and flowers.
