Adak Island - Sweeper Cove, Alaska Cruise Port

Adak Island, also known as Father Island, is situated in the western part of the Andreanof Islands group within Alaska's Aleutian Islands. The island's largest and main city is Adak, located at its southernmost point. With a land area of 274.59 square miles, Adak Island ranks as the 25th largest island in the United States. Its highest peak, Mount Moffett, remains snow-covered for a significant part of the year. Sweeper Cove, positioned on the southwest section of Kuluk Bay along the northeast coast, earned its name in 1934 from the U.S. Navy Aleutian Island Survey Expedition, serving as a shelter for smaller ships during adverse weather conditions. The coastline of Adak, including Sweeper Cove, is characterized by steep descending slopes that extend well into the offshore areas, resulting in a substantial increase in depth as one moves away from the shoreline.
