Tip: The scenic drive is only open seasonally, typically from late May to mid-October due to snow. Check road conditions before you go.
If your visit coincides with the season (typically June to October), attend a performance at the award-winning Utah Shakespeare Festival. The festival presents a full season of classic and contemporary plays in three theatres, including a replica of Shakespeare's Globe.
Tip: Tickets for popular performances sell out quickly, so it's best to book well in advance.

Lace up your hiking boots and explore one of the many local trails near Cedar City. Popular spots include the trails in the surrounding Dixie National Forest or the short, scenic hike to the "C" on the hillside overlooking the city.
Tip: For a rewarding and relatively easy hike, consider the scenic paths in the Ashdown Gorge Wilderness Area just outside of town.
Cedar City is a primary gateway to Zion National Park, located approximately an hour's drive away. While a quick trip might not allow for extensive hiking, you can take a scenic drive through the park and see the majestic red rock cliffs and towering canyons.
Tip: Zion National Park requires a shuttle in its main canyon during much of the year. If you plan to visit, check the park's website for the most up-to-date access information.
The campus of Southern Utah University is a vibrant and beautiful part of the city. The university's grounds are home to the Shakespeare Festival's theaters, as well as art installations and events. It's a pleasant area for a walk and to get a feel for the city's academic and artistic atmosphere.
Tip: The campus is home to the Southern Utah Museum of Art (SUMA), a free and worthwhile stop for art lovers.
