Tip: Be aware that much of the "lace" sold in tourist shops is imported. Look for certified "Burano lace" for authentic, handcrafted pieces, though they will be significantly more expensive.
Just like Pisa, Burano has its own leaning bell tower belonging to the Church of San Martino. Due to subsidence over centuries, the campanile leans noticeably, adding another quirky charm to the island's skyline.
Tip: It's easily spotted from various points around the island; great for a unique photo.
As a traditional fishing village, Burano is an excellent place to savor fresh seafood. Many local restaurants specialize in dishes using the day's catch from the lagoon. Try "Risotto di Go" (risotto with a local goby fish) or other regional Venetian seafood preparations.
Tip: Dine at a trattoria overlooking one of the canals for an authentic experience.
Walk across the wooden bridge to the quieter, greener neighboring island of Mazzorbo. Here, you can find vineyards, orchards, and the renowned Venissa Estate, which produces a unique white wine from the native Dorona grape and features a Michelin-starred restaurant (and a more casual "Osteria").
Tip: A lovely escape for a peaceful stroll or a more upscale dining experience if your time allows.
A common and highly recommended excursion is a "three-island tour" combining Burano with Murano (famous for glass-blowing) and Torcello (Venice's oldest settlement, with a stunning Byzantine mosaic in its cathedral). These islands are easily accessible via Vaporetto.
