The Gallatin River, which flows through the Big Sky area, is one of the most famous fly fishing destinations in the world. Spend an hour or a full day with a local guide to learn the art of casting and try to catch a trout in this pristine river.
Tip: Look for a guided tour that includes all the gear you'll need, from waders to rods and flies.
Big Sky is an excellent base for a day trip to Yellowstone National Park. The park's West Entrance is approximately a one-hour drive away, making it easy to see some of Yellowstone's geysers, hot springs, and abundant wildlife, including bison and elk.
Tip: Get an early start to beat the crowds and traffic within the park, and plan your route to see the attractions you care about most.
For a thrilling experience with incredible views, try one of Big Sky's zipline tours. Many tours run in the summer and take you soaring over the mountain landscape. You can also try other resort activities like the climbing wall or bungee trampoline.
Tip: Book your zipline tour in advance, especially during the peak summer months, as they are very popular.
The Big Sky area is home to a wide array of wildlife, from elk and moose to deer and black bears. Keep an eye out for these magnificent animals, especially at dawn and dusk, but always from a safe and respectful distance.
Tip: Never approach or feed any wildlife. Use binoculars or a zoom lens for a closer look and to ensure your safety and theirs.
