Tip: For a panoramic view of the square and the surrounding city, climb the 230 steps to the top of the Civic Tower (Torre Civica).

Take a leisurely walk along the Venetian walls that encircle the Città Alta. Built in the 16th century, these massive stone walls are a UNESCO World Heritage site and provide some of the most spectacular, uninterrupted views of the Po Valley, the surrounding hills, and Città Bassa below.
Tip: The walls are about 6 kilometers (3.7 miles) in length, so you can choose to walk a short section or the entire circuit depending on your time and fitness level.
After exploring the upper city, take the funicular back down and discover the modern charm of Città Bassa. Stroll along the elegant shopping street of Via Venti Settembre, visit the art gallery at the Accademia Carrara, and enjoy a different side of Bergamasque life.
Tip: Città Bassa has some fantastic shops and restaurants, and it's a great place to experience the local lifestyle away from the main tourist crowds.
