Overview
Alghero, located on the picturesque northwest coast of Sardinia, Italy, is a truly unique cruise destination. Tip: Look for the various historic towers along the bastions, such as Torre di San Giacomo and Torre di Sant'Elmo. Many restaurants and cafes are built into the walls, offering scenic dining.
Embark on a boat trip from Alghero's marina to the spectacular Neptune's Grotto (Grotta di Nettuno), a vast marine cave adorned with stunning stalactites, stalagmites, and a large saltwater lake. Alternatively, you can drive to the top of Capo Caccia and descend the "Escala del Cabirol" (Goat's Staircase) – a 654-step cliffside path – to reach the grotto.
Tip: Check sea conditions before committing to the boat trip, as it can be canceled if the sea is rough. The staircase descent is impressive but demanding.
