We wanted to explore the Bordeaux region for many years and finally decided that a river cruise would be the best way for us to do it. This turned out to be true. With the rivers Dordogne and Garonne as 'highways' we were easily transported to places we wanted to experience on both the left and right banks, all the while learning about the geography, geology and history of the area as related to wine. The daily programs were designed to suit varied interests such as biking, walking, cooking classes, and sommelier led wine tasting. There was also time to explore on our own. After many ocean cruises, this was our first river cruise. We were struck by the almost imperceptible motion as we sailed from place to place most tranquilly. There were no constant announcements or bell reminders; the daily programs delivered to us were sufficient. We saw other lines on the river and had the opportunity to glimpse their facilities since the boats often 'double park' and passengers cross over to shore through a second boat. The Bon Voyage compared favorably in classiness of appearance, staterooms, and crew. The food was good quality and generous with support for special diets. I wish the breakfast and lunch buffets had been served by staff vs. self serve (which means everyone handles the same utensils).
Pros: Expert, cheery staff, beautiful stateroom, friendly passengers, worthwhile visit
Cons:

1st River Cruise. Very much impressed.
Pros: The experience of traveling through the wine country of Bordeaux
Cons: I felt some of the staff were some what unfriendly. This was not the case of all.

This was my first river cruise, and I think I'm spoiled now. Uniworld was absolutely wonderful and I can't imagine the experience being much better. The ship was beautiful, and everyone working onboard was so friendly and helpful. I loved the shore excursions, there were so many good choices, and I especially liked that you had the option to upgrade for a few if you wanted to. I thought I would be eating in port more, especially for lunch, but the food was so good onboard that there was never any reason to eat elsewhere. It was just a fabulous experience, and I can't wait to sail with Uniworld again!
Pros: ship is beautiful, food was fantastic, everything is included, shore excursions were wonderful, staff were so friendly and helpful
Cons: travel documents don't have a boarding time

Overall an excellent experience. Uniworld's attention to detail is outstanding. This particular itinerary truly "Brilliant" for the wine connoisseur, with opportunity for wine tastings and wine education at every port. I particularly loved riding bikes along the country side (both escorted and independently) and taking advantage of multiple farmer's markets. Enjoyed our cruising time on the rivers. I was a little disappointed that our actual cruise time not very long but I understand this is because the Bordeaux region is so small. Other itineraries offer longer river cruise time.
Pros: all inclusive; attention to detail; luxury bath products; farm to table dining; regional wines; cruise decor, art and books related to cruise region; friendly/dedicated staff; fresh flowers; fresh fruit; green/sustainable focus.
Cons: Wifi did not work on last three days of cruise. Would like to see expanded dining options outside of breakfast, lunch, dinner- perhaps some "happy hour" tapas or high tea with finger sandwiches (not just cookies)

Everything on this ship after its complete renovation was amazing. The décor was lovely, complete with beautiful art work, comfortable English bedding, excellent food, and wonderful staff. The bus drivers and tour guides were some of the best I have ever experienced. There was a lot if attention to detail on the ship from rain showers with both pressure and plenty of hot water, to very cushy and comfortable deck lounge chairs that I have never seen at sea or even at a resort for that matter. The bedding was amazing and the food was outstanding. The staff have been with the company an average of 9 years and it shows. You can tell that this is a family company and that they genuinely care. Guests onboard commented on their many repeat trips with Uniworld and love the quality and consistency.
Pros: Service was top notch, food was wonderful, attention to detail was amazing
Cons: None
