In 1998, the Grand Princess debuted something no ship had ever carried before: a custom-built wedding chapel at sea. Princess Cruises' captains were already officiating legal ceremonies, but a dedicated chapel set a new standard for what a wedding at sea could look like.
Princess Perfect Weddings is Princess Cruises' official at-sea wedding program, offering packages for legal and symbolic ceremonies, vow renewals, and proposals, all officiated by the ship's captain. Whether you're planning an intimate ceremony or a celebration for 18 or more guests, this guide covers every package, what's included, and the details most planning guides skip.

Closer Look at the Wedding Packages
Every Princess Perfect Wedding Package shares a foundation regardless of size: your ceremony is officiated by the ship's captain, a dedicated wedding coordinator handles planning from before you board through the day itself, and the captain's involvement goes well beyond the ceremony.
Expect a private meeting the day before, a personal welcome note, a bridge tour & photo, and an official announcement of the newly married couple to everyone onboard. What changes from package to package are scale, guest count, and how much of the day you want to fill.

Ceremony Venues on Princess Ships

One of the most common questions couples have is where, exactly, the ceremony takes place. The answer depends on the ship, your guest count, and availability on your sail date.
The range of options is wider than most expect. From intimate indoor chapels to open-air deck settings with ocean views, Princess has transformed a variety of onboard spaces into ceremony venues.
Venue | Setting | Capacity |
|---|---|---|
Chapel | Indoor, private | Up to 10–30 guests |
Outdoor Venue | Outdoor, weather dependent | Up to 30–50 guests |
The Piazza | Indoor, public, grand elevated setup | Up to 70 guests |
Wheelhouse | Indoor, semi-private | Up to 20–50 guests |
Club Fusion | Indoor, private | Up to 350 guests |
Double Down/Take 5 | Indoor, private, window views | Up to 20–40 guests |
Adagio | Indoor, private, window views | Up to 30–50 guests |
Hollywood Conservatory | Indoor, public, window views | Up to 50 guests |
Love by Britto | Indoor, private, window views | Up to 25 guests |
Upper Dome | Indoor, public, window views | Up to 12 guests |
Cascade Bar | Indoor, public, window views | Up to 40 guests |
A note on The Piazza: Available on every ship in the fleet, The Piazza offers the most dramatic setting of any venue: a grand, elevated indoor space that accommodates up to 70 guests. An additional venue fee applies, and ship approval is required. Couples interested in The Piazza should request it early through their wedding coordinator, as availability is not guaranteed.
Your wedding coordinator will confirm which venues are available for your sailing, with your final venue locked in within 30 days of the ceremony.
Making It Yours

Princess offers a range of options that let couples shape the ceremony and reception around their vision, from the music that plays as you walk down the aisle to what your guests sip at the reception.
Ceremony Enhancements
A few additions worth knowing about as you plan:
- Bring your own processional and recessional music on a USB
- Add rose petal décor to your ceremony venue
- Arrange stateroom-delivered wedding favors for guests
- Add a microphone setup for readings or personal vows
Entertainment Options
For couples hosting a reception, live entertainment can be requested to fill the space. Options include:
- Solo musician
- Professional vocalist and musician
- Live DJ
- Instrumental music group
- A/V and microphone technician for couples displaying their own music or a photo slideshow during the event
Entertainment requests require a confirmed venue based on guest count and should be submitted at least 60 days prior to sailing.
Dining Add-Ons
Couples can request a specialty dining reservation for two as part of their celebration. For larger groups, a partial or full venue buyout is available for the evening, giving your guests a dedicated space to dine and celebrate together.
Note: Breakfast and lunch options are not available through the wedding packages, and specialty dining included in Princess Premier packages cannot be applied to wedding reservations.
Photography Add-Ons
Great news for photo lovers: every package includes a dedicated photographer, prints, and digital files. Want even more? Additional photo purchases are available separately.
Like the dining add-ons, photography included in your Princess Perfect Weddings package cannot be combined with photo offerings from Princess Plus or Princess Premier.
How to Plan and Book Your Princess Perfect Wedding
Planning a wedding at sea is more straightforward than most couples expect. Princess Perfect Weddings has a dedicated team and a clear process designed to take the complexity out of it, from the first inquiry through the morning of the ceremony.
Here are the steps:
- Browse the packages. The at-a-glance table earlier in this guide is a good starting point. Get a feel for scale, guest count, and budget.
- Contact a coordinator. Princess' wedding coordinators walk you through the program, answer questions, and help narrow down your options before you commit.
- Check availability and place a hold. Once you've identified your preferred date, ship, and package, a coordinator can place it on a five-day courtesy hold (payment and a signed agreement must be received within those five days, or the reservation will be canceled automatically).
- Build your ceremony. After booking, you select inclusions, customize choices, add enhancements, and make special requests with your coordinator.
A few planning timelines to keep in mind:
- Entertainment requests (live musicians, DJ, A/V setup) should be submitted at least 60 days before sailing.
- Your ceremony venue is confirmed within 30 days of your ceremony date.
The Cruise Web Advantage: Our travel advisors specialize in wedding cruises and can help match the right package to your vision, answer questions the website can't, and advocate for you throughout the planning process.
What to Know Before You Book
A few details that don't always make it into the highlights reel, but matter when you're planning.
Holiday Surcharges
A $200 seasonal surcharge applies to ceremonies booked on the following dates:
- Valentine's Day
- Easter
- Independence Day (USA)
- Halloween
- Thanksgiving
- Christmas Day
- New Year's Eve
- New Year's Day
The surcharge applies across all packages. If your ideal date falls on one of these, factor it into your budget early.
Same-Sex Ceremonies
Symbolic ceremonies are available to all couples regardless of gender. Legal same-sex ceremonies are subject to local jurisdiction.
Bermuda law, for example, prohibits legal same-sex marriages onboard while at sea. Your wedding coordinator can walk through what's available based on your itinerary and help you understand options for legal ceremonies ashore if needed.
A Few More Details Worth Noting
- Venue confirmation comes within 30 days of your ceremony date.
- Entertainment requests must be submitted at least 60 days prior to sailing.
- A valid marriage certificate is required to book the Renew the Love package.
- The five-day courtesy hold requires payment and a signed agreement to confirm. Reservations cancel automatically if neither is received within those five days.
Princess Cruises has spent decades refining what it means to get married at sea. The packages, the venues, the captain's involvement, and the little details in between are all designed with the couple in mind.

What is the difference between a symbolic and a legal ceremony on a Princess cruise?
A legal ceremony results in a legally binding marriage recognized in your home jurisdiction and includes the marriage license in the package price. A symbolic ceremony follows the same format and includes all the same package elements but carries no legal standing. Couples who choose symbolic ceremonies typically arrange legal paperwork separately before or after the cruise.
Can a Princess ship's captain legally marry us?
Yes. Princess Cruises captains are empowered to officiate legal marriage ceremonies at sea. All Princess Perfect Weddings packages include a captain-led ceremony. Legal ceremonies include the marriage license; symbolic ceremonies follow the same format but carry no legal standing.
Can same-sex couples get married on a Princess cruise?
Symbolic ceremonies are available to all couples regardless of gender. Legal same-sex ceremonies are subject to local jurisdiction.
