From the world's first hydrogen-powered cruise ship to new vessels on Europe's rivers, the Nile, and India's Brahmaputra River, Viking is making some of the biggest moves in cruising right now.
Here's a look at every new ship on the way and why each one should be on your radar.
Viking Libra: The World's First Hydrogen-Powered Cruise Ship

Expected Debut: November 2026
The Viking Libra recently reached a major construction milestone, completing her float out at Fincantieri's Ancona Shipyard in Italy. She'll be the world's first cruise ship powered by hydrogen fuel cells, capable of operating with zero emissions.
Viking Libra Highlights
- Her hybrid propulsion system combines liquefied hydrogen and fuel cells, producing up to six megawatts of power and allowing her to navigate even the most environmentally sensitive areas.
- Hosting 998 guests in 499 staterooms, the Viking Libra will spend her inaugural season sailing Mediterranean and Northern Europe itineraries.
- A sister ship, the Viking Astrea, is also under construction and scheduled for delivery in 2027 with the same hydrogen-powered technology.

Viking Eldir: Viking's Newest European Longship

Debuted: March 2026
The Viking Eldir is the latest Viking Longship to join the fleet, delivered from Meyer's Neptun Werft shipyard in Germany and already sailing Europe's most popular river routes.
Viking Eldir Highlights
- Hosting 190 guests in 95 staterooms, the Viking Eldir features Viking's signature Scandinavian design, including an indoor/outdoor Aquavit Terrace, an asymmetric corridor, and true two-room suites.
- She sails popular European itineraries on the Rhine, Main, and Danube rivers, including Rhine Getaway, Grand European Tour, Passage to Eastern Europe, European Sojourn, and Christmas on the Rhine.
- The Viking Eldir is part of a larger expansion — Viking expects to take delivery of 22 additional river ships by 2028, bringing its river fleet to 112 ships.
With 112 river ships expected by 2028, Viking's European fleet continues to grow—which means more departure dates, more itinerary options, and more availability on the Rhine, Main, and Danube.

Viking Ganges & Viking Brahmaputra: India River Voyages Expand Through 2029

Expected Debuts: Late 2027 (Viking Brahmaputra) | 2028 (Viking Ganges)
Viking is expanding into India with two purpose-built ships, Viking Brahmaputra & Viking Ganges, for the Brahmaputra River, and new sailing dates are now open for booking through 2029.
Viking Ganges & Viking Brahmaputra Highlights
- Both ships host 80 guests in 40 staterooms, with floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors and private verandas throughout.
- They'll sail the 15-day Wonders of India itinerary, which operates roundtrip from Delhi and includes hotel stays in Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur, plus an eight-day river voyage through northeastern India's Assam region.
- The itinerary features 13 included tours and the opportunity to visit as many as 10 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, from the Taj Mahal to the wildlife of Kaziranga National Park.
- Pre- and post-cruise land extensions are available, including Dubai, Kathmandu, and Cochin & Mumbai.
India's Brahmaputra River is one of the last great frontiers in river cruising. Flowing through Assam's tea plantations, wildlife reserves, and remote island communities, it's a destination most travelers have never considered—and one that rewards those who do.
