Debuting in 2020, Carnival Cruise Lines’ newest ship, Mardi Gras, will feature the first roller coaster at sea, BOLT: Ultimate Sea Coaster. Working with German-based Maurer Rides, the new coaster is over 800 feet long and reaches speeds over 40 miles per hour.
Riders will get to customize their experience on BOLT, choosing a partner to share their ride with, along with the speed at which they will zip through the air, high above the sea. Reaching nearly 200 feet above sea level, riders accelerate quickly, twisting and turning, ending their ride with a tight turn around the signature Carnival funnel. Carnival President Christine Duffy might be the most excited for this new addition, “BOLT will continue the tradition of Carnival providing exciting new ways for our guests to ‘Choose Fun.’ We are so thrilled to introduce this one-of-a-kind, game-changing, exhilarating attraction – our guests are going to love it!”
And according to Duffy, BOLT is not the only exciting innovation expected aboard Mardi Gras. She says, “Mardi Gras will be our most innovative ship ever with some truly special features and attractions, highlighted by BOLT, the first roller coaster at sea.” Read more about the meaning behind the name Mardi Gras, and other exciting things to come aboard the new ship on The Cruise Web’s blog!
