Isla Baltra, Galapagos Islands Cruise Port

Isla Baltra is a small, flat island located near the center of the Galapagos Islands. However, it is not within the boundaries of the Galapagos National Park. When visiting the Galapagos Island, Isla Baltra is generally the first island you will visit. Aside from containing some of the most fascinating animal species known to man, this small island also has a storied history. For instance, it played a significant role during World War II by supporting a US military base that helped protect the Panama Canal and patrol the Pacific Ocean. Cruise to Isla Baltra and experience the raw natural beauty of the Galapagos.Featured below are a few of our favorite experiences for the cruise port of Isla Baltra in the Galapagos:

  • Explore the trails of the neighboring North Seymour island where you can spot sea lions, marine iguanas, frigatebirds and, of course, the famous blue-footed boobies.

  • Situated in the channel between Baltra and North Seymour Mosquera is a small, sandy, flat islet that has the largest population of sea lions.

  • The land iguanas of Baltra were nearly extinct in 1954 due to the lack of vegetation, but then the Hancock Expedition transferred about 70 iguanas to neighboring island North Seymour,  which were then brought over to Baltra. Isla Baltra now has a healthy land iguana population that you can experience in their natural habitat.
