St Helier, Isle of Jersey Cruise Port

• Named for Elizabeth I, Elizabeth Castle is located on L'Islet outside of town (it can be reached by foot at low tide or by amphibious vehicle). Begun in the 16th century, it wasn't used for military purposes until the English Civil War in the 17th century. Check out the artefacts on display and if there on a Sunday, you may also catch a reenactment from the Battle of Jersey.
   
• Admission to both the Maritime Museum and Occupation Tapestry Gallery are included on the same ticket; the former features interactive exhibits that show how Jersey's landscape was shaped by the sea, while the gallery displays a 12-panel tapestry showing life in Jersey during World War II.
   
• Liberation was created in 1995 to mark 50 years since the end of Nazi occupation here. The group in the statue holds a Union Jack flag, while the 12 jets in the fountain symbolize Jersey's parishes.
   
• Animal lovers will want to see Durrell Wildlife Park, which focuses on rare and endangered species (its flanked by a dodo statue at the gate). Broken down into four main groups, here you'll see species you may never have encountered, and learn about the zoo's conservation efforts.
