Munich, Germany Cruise Port

Beer lovers rejoice, Munich is home to the famed Oktoberfest celebrations in Germany. This is a 16-day festival in the middle of the city, where beer takes center stage. The festival began back in 1810 as a celebration of the marriage of Crown Prince Ludwig to Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen. It has flourished since and welcomes thousands of visitors. Munich is also known as a major business base for companies like Nokia Solutions, BMW and Siemens. The city is also a hotspot for music – Mozart even produced a production of Idomeneo here. Featured below are a few of our favorite experiences for the cruise port of Munich, Germany :
  • Enjoy the city’s local beer at a biergarten if you are in town during warmer weather months. Munich has approximately 400 beer gardens.

  • Catch a show at the National Theater where the Bavarian National Opera Company performs, and Wagner debuted many of his works.

  • Learn about a variety of topics from how to blow glass to atom splitting at the Deutches Museum. On display are the first automobile and the first diesel engine.

  • Lay out in the Englischer Garten (English Garden) a public park larger than New York’s Central Park. Just don’t be surprised to see a naked body or two as nudity is legal in the park.

  • Take a tour at the Bavaria Filmstadt, a theme park that explores the area’s cinematic traditions. It is also a studio where films like Das Boot were shot.
