Bari, Italy Cruise Port

If you look at Italy as a boot, Bari is located at the top of the heel. It is the largest city in the Puglia region and is along the Adriatic Sea. The city is most known for its port which welcomes many cruisers throughout the year. Much of the city is laid out on a grid which was the initiative of Joachim Murat, the brother-in-law of Napoleon. The old part of the city still stands and offers many interesting historical sites. Contact The Cruise Web’s experts for help planning a cruise to Bari, Italy. Featured below are a few of our favorite experiences for the cruise port of Bari, Italy:

  • The Basilica Di San Nicola was built to house the remains of Saint Nicholas (also known as Santa Claus), but it is believed his remains were stolen by sailors from Turkey. This is the only building to survive the city’s destruction by the Normans in 1152.

  • The Pinacoteca Provinciale is a museum with works by southern Italians. Along with paintings and sculptures, the museum houses fragments from buildings and altarpieces.

  • Head to the old city and spend an afternoon walking its winding alleys. In Italy you may get glimpses of women hand-rolling pasta or workers repairing an old building.

  • Visit the Cattedrale di San Sabino, the Bari Cathedral built in the 12th century by the Normans. This was the site of many important Medieval marriages.
