Expo 2015 / World’s Fair
Expo 2015 is the name of the 2015 world’s fair being held in Milan, Italy. The large scale festival will cover nearly 300 acres while running from May 1 through October 31, 2015. The theme for this year’s expo is “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life” – and nearly 150 participants are lined up. You’ll interact with exhibits centered on five main themes: the impact of man, feast and famine, the future of food, sustainable food, and taste. Even if you only have a day to enjoy the fair, Expo 2015 is sure to delight visitors traveling through Italy during its 6-month run.

Singapore’s Golden Jubilee
2015 marks the 50th anniversary of Singapore’s independence, and it’s gearing up to be one heck of a celebration. Learn more about the Singaporean culture as they celebrate their heritage while looking forward to an even brighter future. Highlights of the yearlong celebration include the National Day Parade on August 9th and the opening of the National Gallery Singapore and the start of the Jubilee Walk in November. After the organized Jubilee Walk is completed, the extensive trail – which will be highlighted by a new pedestrian bridge and several new art displays – will remain as a lasting legacy to the occasion.

Total Lunar Eclipse
2015 will feature the third and fourth lunar eclipses in a rare series of four consecutive lunar eclipses that began in 2014. This astronomical event, which is sometimes referred to as a blood moon, is predicted to occur only a handful of times this century. Therefore, during the year’s second lunar eclipse on September 28th, make sure you are someplace that gives you the best visibility. Scientists predict that most of North America, South America, Europe and Africa will enjoy at least 75% of the September eclipse, but why not celebrate the end of this tetrad of eclipses with a hot Caribbean vacation to the Bahamas?

Back to the Future… in 2015
In 1989’s Back to the Future: Part II, Marty McFly and Doc Brown travel into the future… to the year 2015. That makes this the perfect year to compare the world we live in now to the one depicted in this classic sci-fi movie. While we’re still working out the kinks of floating hoverboards and DeLorean-based time travel, we do have a plethora of high-tech cruise ships – and Royal Caribbean’s brand new Quantum of the Seas is often touted as the most futuristic and technologically advanced cruise ship in the world.
Only the Quantum of the Seas lets you step into a skydiving simulator, order a cocktail from a robot and enjoy a show set to a virtual backdrop in the revolutionary Two70. This year, experience this high-tech marvel in all her futuristic glory on a Royal Caribbean cruise to Asia, the Bahamas or the Caribbean aboard Quantum of the Seas.
The Burj Khalifa’s Birthday
This year marks the 5th birthday for the tallest building in the world, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, UAE. Located in the center of bustling Dubai, this majestic skyscraper climbs over 2,700 feet and offers some of the most breathtaking views in the world. At the base of the tower is the 30-acre Burj Khalifa Lake, which features the impressive Dubai Fountain (designed by the same company that created the famous Bellagio fountains in Las Vegas).
Visit Dubai and ascend to the top of the Burj Khalifa while it still retains the title of World’s Tallest Building. Afterwards, you could depart from Dubai for an unforgettable cruise vacation to the Middle East, Asia or Europe.
Lord of the Rings Turns 60
In 2015, J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings trilogy celebrates a special birthday – 60 years since the final publication of The Return of the King in 1955. The mythical world of Middle-earth contained landscapes so diverse that there were few real life locations that could do Tolkien’s imagination justice. Fortunately, the striking country and mountainsides of New Zealand proved suitable enough for Peter Jackson and his creative team who set their film trilogies in different locations throughout New Zealand. During 2015, consider marking this 60th anniversary with a re-reading (or viewing) of this classic series, followed by a cruise to the closest thing we have to Middle-earth. You can tour the Hobbiton movie set, visit the films’ Weta workshop studio in Wellington and more.

Cunard Line’s 175th Anniversary
Throughout the spring and summer of 2015, Cunard Line will be celebrating their historic 175th anniversary. In May of 2015, Cunard is even bringing all three of their ships together in Liverpool, England before each embarks on their own special world cruise. Cunard will also mark the occasion with several unique sailings, including one that recreates Cunard’s original transatlantic voyage and another that remembers the attack on the Lusitania during World War I.
This special anniversary year will be marked with firework shows and famous appearances – just as you would expect from Cunard Line – so the whole affair is not one to be missed. And there’s a reason Cunard Line has been around for 175 years, so maybe it’s time you experience their signature style for yourself with a Cunard Line voyage in 2015.
70th Anniversary of Victory in Europe (World War II)
May 8, 2015 marks the 70th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day, or V-E Day, when the Allies accepted the unconditional surrender of Nazi Germany. This brought an end to the war in Europe and triggered celebrations throughout much of the world. To commemorate this anniversary, we suggest taking a river cruise through Europe to some of the cities and countries most affected by the war. You can learn about the war crimes trials in Nuremberg, tour Remagen to examine the failures of Operation Market Garden or visit the beaches of Normandy in France, site of the critical beach landings during D-Day.
Visit some of Europe’s most historic landmarks and World War II memorials on a river cruise to Europe. Make sure to contact The Cruise Web’s expert consultants to make the most of your river cruise vacation.
