Viking River Cruises Unveils New Itinerary Centered Around The Passion Play in Oberammergau

By The Cruise Web, Inc.

Viking River Cruises will be giving guests the opportunity to experience The Passion Play in Oberammergau, Germany in 2020. The Oberammergau, The Passion Play itinerary will travel between Munich and Budapest along the Danube River from May through October 2020.

The highlight of this ten-day itinerary is the performance of The Passion Play, a depiction of suffering, death, and resurrection of Christ. It is performed by the citizens of Oberammergau once every decade and has been performed since 1634.

“We are committed to providing our guests with opportunities that bring local culture and history to life both onboard our ships and onshore,” said Richard Marnell, Senior Vice President of Marketing for Viking. “To help our guests learn about a destination through ‘Working World,’ ‘Local Life,’ or ‘Privileged Access’ experiences, such as this historic performance, is what we call ‘The Viking Way’ of exploration.”

Visit the iconic city of Vienna with a Viking River Cruise.

Guests will sail on one of Viking’s award-winning Viking Longships, which only welcome up to 190 guests at a time. In addition to seeing The Passion Play, other highlights of the itinerary include:

Tour and Organ Concert in Passau: Travelers will explore Passau’s gorgeous streets and will enjoy seeing Europe’s largest pipe organ. It has more than 17,000 pipes and is housed at the stunning 17th century St Stephen’s Cathedral.

Mozart & Strauss Concert in Vienna: Travelers will enjoy a classical concert featuring music that has defined Vienna: waltzes from Strauss and selections from Mozart’s The Magic Flute.

Explore Nuremberg’s History: Nuremberg is where the Third Reich rose and fell and should be on every history buff’s list. Explore some of Nuremberg’s most important World War II history sites, including Zeppelin Field and the Palace of Justice – the venue of Nazi war trials.

Thermal Baths of Budapest: Travelers will experience the restorative benefits of bathing in the thermal waters that flow through Budapest. These waters were originally discovered by the ancient Romans and are still something most locals can’t live without.

Hi Mary,

That’s great, I’m very happy to hear that you enjoyed the cruise! There are only a few sailings that include the passion play and in past years they have sold out quickly. When did you want to travel? Give me a call or shoot me an email whenever you’re available to discuss this further!
