Sun PrincessOn August 9th, in Singapore, Princess Cruises’ Sun Princess began her transformation into a beautiful swan of the seven seas–a massive refurbishment that will bring significant changes to some of the most important onboard experiences for Princess cruisers.
In accordance with the fact that the ship is stationed in Asia, this extensive $30 million transformation and enhancement is taking place in the Sembawang shipyard in Singapore. The process will take about two weeks, and will include updates to the Horizon Court Buffet, a renovated Lotus Spa, and a new atrium with the Princess staple: the International Cafe. In addition, the Sun Princess will be the proud new owner of a sushi and seafood venue.
According to Jan Swartz, Princess Cruises executive vice president, the Sun Princess debuted Princess’ “first Japan-based cruise program, and now will benefit from its time there with some new Asia-inspired elements.”
Those interested in following this drydock step-by-step are in luck: Princess will be posting regular photo updates and offering a behind-the-scenes look at the process. This online Sun Princess drydock journal gives Princess-faithful the opportunity to get an “insider’s look” at what it takes to transform a ship, from furnishings and finishes to fresh hull paint.
