Viking Ocean Cruises shared with the world a video of its very first ship, the 930-passenger Viking Star, due to carry passengers in early 2015. The vessel’s “float out” ceremony took place at Fincantieri’s Marghera shipyard in Italy, and was met with great fanfare.
To add to the excitement, Viking Ocean Cruises also announced the ship’s godmother, Ms. Trude Drevland, the mayor of Bergen, Norway. Ms. Drevland will officially name the ship during her christening on May 17th, 2015, which is also Norway’s Constitution Day. She will also participate in the symbolic act of welding coins to the ship, something that’s been practiced for nearly 2,000 years. “Trude,” as she’s known throughout Norway, says she’s both excited and privileged to participate in this glorious occasion.
