The company, which has been a leader in the river cruise industry, wants to bring their destination-centric approach to ocean cruising. Their ocean cruises are planned to offer passengers more night-time in port and more over nights than most cruise lines. Viking’s ocean cruises will also include the same inclusive amenities as their river cruises with complimentary beer and wine at lunch and dinner, complimentary wi-fi, room service and a self-service laundry facility.

The Viking Star will hold 928 passengers and each stateroom will have a veranda, the smallest of these rooms will be 270 square feet. The ship will also feature two pools, one with a domed ceiling and an infinity pool, which will be cantilevered off the stern of the ship. Passengers will also be entertained in a three-story atrium and can take classes at the onboard cooking school.
The ship will feature at least five different dining venues. All of which will have fresh, local ingredients. The dining venues include: The Restaurant, World Cafe, The Chef’s Table, Italian Grill and The Kitchen Table. You can already book your cruise on the Viking Star‘s maiden season, and so far the ship will be sailing three different itineraries:

  • Viking Homelands – A 15-day journey stopping in Copenhagen, Stockholm, St. Petersburg and Bergen
  • Passage Through Western Europe – A 15-day journey starting in Bergen and visiting London and Paris, before stopping in Barcelona
  • Empires of the Mediterranean – A 10-day journey from Venice to Athens and Istanbul

Viking will also have another ocean ship out in 2016. These new ships will be in good company as Viking christened 10 new river ships this year and plans to christen another 12 in 2014.
