Silversea’s Silver Cloud to Join Expedition Fleet

Silversea Silver Cloud (before refurbishment)

Silversea Silver Cloud (before refurbishment)Silversea Cruises announced a big refurbishment for their luxurious Silver Cloud ship, which will be converted into an “ice-class” Expedition ship during the fall of 2017. The extensive refurbishment will prepare the Silver Cloud for luxurious adventure travel to some of the world’s most far-flung destinations.
This extensive refurbishment will result in a smaller passenger capacity of only 260 privileged guests, down from the current 296-guest capacity. However, in accordance with sustainable tourism guidelines set forth by the Association of Arctic Expedition Cruise Operators (AECO) and the International Association of Antarctic Tour Operators (IAATO), the updated Silver Cloud will sail with a maximum of 200 guests when embarking on polar itineraries. To make sure these guests can get up close and personal with Silversea’s most exclusive destinations, the Silver Cloud will also feature her own fleet of 18 Zodiac boats.
After her refurbishment, the Silver Cloud will be the only luxury expedition ship in her class with five dining options, and she’ll claim the best space-to-guest and staff-to-guest ratios. Silversea Expeditions’ onboard enrichment program provides engaging lectures and presentations to complement the unforgettable excursions. When Silver Cloud’s guests aren’t exploring the far corners of the world, they’ll enjoy the luxurious comforts of their oceanview suite with butler service, as well as complimentary beverages, wines and spirits.
Silver Explorer’s polar expedition cruises have proven hugely popular with our guests,” says Enzo Visone, Silversea’s CEO. “By converting Silver Cloud into an ice-class ship for our expedition fleet, we will be better positioned to meet the increasing demand for comfortable adventure travel, particularly to the Arctic and Antarctica, places that are best explored by small ships specially equipped with ice-strengthened hulls.”
Upon her completion in late 2017, the Silver Cloud will join the Silver Explorer, Silver Discoverer and Silver Galapagos. Each of the ships in Silversea’s Expedition fleet features an impressive cast of experts, including anthropologists, biologists, geologists and historians.
