My Weekend Cruise Getaway

Merry snorkels with friendsMany of us find that it’s tough to get away from work and responsibilities at home.  However, with such  busy schedules, it’s completely necessary to get some much needed rest and relaxation.  But how are you going to sneak in a quick getaway or even find the time to plan?  A weekend cruise is just what the doctor ordered!  There’s little planning involved because the cruise lines (and your cruise consultant) take care of everything for you!
In March, I was lucky enough to find the time to take a 3-night cruise to the Bahamas over the weekend on the Norwegian Sky with a few friends. On Friday morning I packed my bag and took a quick flight to Miami. By 1 p.m. I had joined my friends on board the ship and was sunning myself in the Miami heat with a cocktail in hand.  The staff set up a barbecue by the pool and had a great steel drum band playing to set the mood!  We kicked back, played some cards, and took the obligatory Facebook “I’m on vacation and you’re still in the office” pictures to post for all our friends back home to be jealous of! We enjoyed our first night with a formal dinner and followed that by belting out some tunes at karaoke!
Merry at Senor FrogsSaturday morning I overslept from my food coma but my roommate was smart enough to pre-order room service breakfast the night before!  We enjoyed yogurt and a great fruit salad for breakfast before we dashed off to join our catamaran for our snorkeling excursion.  The staff onboard the catamaran were fantastic, they took us out to snorkel in a cool spot and afterwards the rum party was on!  They had the music pumping, the punch flowing, and even had us help raise the sails.  We returned to Nassau in the late afternoon, just in time to grab a quick bite at Señor Frogs before heading back to the ship!  Back onboard we dined at Cagney’s, a specialty steakhouse, followed by a night out at the clubs.
On Sunday I was able to get in some much needed rest and relaxation on Great Stirrup Cay, Norwegian Cruise Line’s private island.  I spent the whole day either floating on a mat in crystal clear blue water or napping on the white sand beach.
We returned to Miami Monday morning and I was back in Maryland by 2 p.m., fully refreshed and ready to tackle the new work week!
