Carnival Announces Shore Excursion Guarantee

Photo courtesy of Carnival Cruise LinesSometimes you find it’s cheaper to venture off on your own in a port, or book an excursion with a company based in the port you are visiting. However, when you do this you always run the risk of missing the ship. But did you know cruise lines will wait to disembark from a port if one of their shore excursion groups are not back in time?
And now you can rest assured that you are going to get the lowest price from Carnival’s shore excursions because they have a new best price guarantee. That means if you find the same excursion Carnival offers from a different tour operator at a lower price, you can receive 110% of the difference in the price in onboard credit.
Now here’s the fine print: You must first purchase the shore excursion from Carnival prior to your cruise. If you then find the same excursion advertised at a lower rate, you fill out an online form up to seven days before the sailing, or onboard within 48 hours of the excursion. After submitting the form, Carnival has 48 hours to determine if your claim is applicable.
The competing excursion needs to be on the same day and it has to be advertised with pricing. You are required to know the company putting on the excursion and submit a link to their company site.
When you cruise, do you typically book shore excursions through the ship, or do you seek outside sources? What have your experiences been like when you partake in a ship-led shore excursion?
