Carnival Announces Changes to Smoking Policy

By The Cruise Web, Inc.

Recently, Carnival Cruise Lines announced a change to their on-board smoking policy that could result in the offender being disembarked. Previously, Carnival’s policy included a nominal fine due to extra cleaning required in the stateroom, but was still a relatively lenient policy.

New policies are making Carnival’s stance on smoking aboard their ships very clear. Two important provisions are included:

  • Any violation of this policy will result in a $500 charge, per violation, posted on the guest’s Sail & Sign account and may also result in the disembarkation of all guests in the stateroom.
  • Guests who are disembarked for violating Carnival’s policy will be responsible for all financial charges and expenses to return home, and no refund of their unused cruise fare will be provided. Additionally, they may be prohibited from sailing with Carnival Cruise Line in the future.

Notably, Carnival now has a $500 fine for each violation of their smoking policy, and a possible disembarkation for not only the offender, but all those in their stateroom. Any expenses incurred from disembarkation due to violation of the smoking policy will be the full responsibility of the passenger.

Carnival Starts Construction on Newest and Largest Ship

By The Cruise Web, Inc.

Earlier this week, the first steel was cut to mark the beginning of construction on Carnival Cruise Line’s newest class of ship. The hull and livery design were also revealed, using the iconic red, white and blue colors that continue the legacy of Carnival being “America’s Cruise Line”. This 180,000-ton XL vessel will use liquefied natural gas (LNG) to operate—the first ever to do so in North America.

A steel-cutting ceremony took place at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Turku, Finland. This will be the largest Carnival cruise ship ever constructed, set to be delivered in 2020.  A second XL ship will begin construction in 2020 and to be completed in 2022 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Carnival Cruise Line’s founding.

“This new ship promises to be truly special, from its groundbreaking technology and one-of-a-kind features to its distinctive livery and hull design that is both timeless and forward-thinking while paying tribute to our nearly 50-year history of making wonderful vacation memories for our guests,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line.

Shaq’s Big Chicken Restaurant Coming to Carnival Radiance

By The Cruise Web, Inc.

Carnival Radiance will be undergoing $200 million worth of refurbishments set to debut in 2020. The new on-board restaurant, Big Chicken, is highly anticipated, adapting a land-based eatery owned by Carnival’s Chief Fun Officer, former NBA champion, Shaquille O’Neal.

On what will be the newly redesigned Lido Deck, this restaurant will offer classic fried chicken dishes, a variety of sandwiches, and even breakfast! In fast casual style, patrons will not be kept waiting as they place their order at one end of the counter and pick up right away at the other end. Each dish is named using a clever nickname that O’Neal went by during his NBA career, but the most tantalizing thing about this new restaurant is the price—free!

MSC Cruises to Add Four New Ultra-Luxury Ships

By The Cruise Web, Inc.

For the first time, MSC Cruises is going beyond their large contemporary vessels and moving into luxury cruising. The Italian-based cruise company ordered four new 64,000-ton cruise ships, which will hold up to 1,000 passengers.

Pierfrancesco Vago, executive chairman of MSC Cruises, said that this would be a logical next step to expand the MSC Yacht Club, which is currently known as the “luxury ship within a ship” on the bigger vessels.

“These ships will be able to offer unique itineraries, thanks to their size, and the guest services will be taken to another level, including our personalized MSC Yacht Club butler service, available 24/7,” Vago said.

Although not many details have been revealed, MSC said the ships will have a “highly-innovative design as well as introduce ground-breaking options for guest comfort and relaxation.”

Large cruise companies that have both contemporary ships and luxury vessels in their fleet operate them as brands independent of one another. MSC would be the first to operate as one brand, but with different levels of luxury and exclusivity.

Aruba Adventure: A Photo Blog

By Heather Wasson, Director of Sales, The Cruise Web, Inc.

I Love ArubaLast May I took a spring break of my own to discover the island of Aruba. Aruba is one of the most popular ports in the  Southern Caribbean. The island itself is only 70 square miles, but it’s a favorite of many, tourism is its biggest industry, and I can see why. It’s a very relaxing place. Aruba is known for its mild temperatures and white sand beaches.

While I had a great trip, the weather was more on the humid side when I went. If you’re headed to the island, make sure to bring lightweight and breathable clothes and plan to drink lots of water while you’re out and about. During the day there are a lot of water activities to do, like parasailing and snorkeling. One day my friends and I went deep-sea fishing through a company, Driftwood Charters,  that also owned a restaurant, Driftwood Restaurant. That night we were able to eat the fish we caught for dinner. It was an amazing experience.

At night, Aruba lights up with bars and casinos. Nearly every hotel and resort has a casino, and many of them stay open until sunrise, if not 24 hours. Take a look at the pictures below to get an idea of my trip to Aruba. [Read more →]
