Appropriately I am writing about green on St Patrick’s Day and everyone around me is sporting their finest green ware. When they asked me to write about the color green, I am not sure they knew it was my favorite color, but, really, what’s not to love? Green is the color of spring, of the Super Bowl champions, the Green Bay Packers, and of the wonderful band Green Day. It is the name of one of the best REM albums. Green is the color jacket for which every golfer aspires. A green flag starts car races, even my 2 year old son knows that green means Go! Green is renewable and fresh. And, of course, it is the color of money. Who doesn’t want more green!
But, you may ask, what does green have to do with cruising? A lot, I would answer. One of my favorite visual memories is of a sail away from Jamaica. The hills were so lush and green. I thought it was one of the most beautiful landscapes I had ever seen. When we cruise to tropical islands, certainly beaches are a draw, with their turquoise waters (which I consider more green than blue), but so are rain forests, vibrant and green. One cruise line has even picked up on this theme and now has a lawn of real grass growing on the top deck. I once played bocce ball and had a picnic on a soft tableau of natural green in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea! My favorite drink on a cruise is a mojito, that wonderful drink that is so full of limes and mint that it nearly glows green. After a couple of them I often find myself in the casino, trying to win some green!
If you love this color as much as I, I recommend that you save your green and then book a cruise to, well, anywhere! You will surely find that wonderful color waiting for you in one of its many beautiful forms.
