Starting on October 31, 2014, Regent Seven Seas Cruises will begin offering its passengers up to 500 free minutes of WiFi use while onboard their ships. This is a major breakthrough as WiFi has previously only been offered at an added cost or only for those who have attained a certain loyalty level, and in some instances only available through short-lived promotions.
This offering will be consistent aboard Regent’s entire fleet. However, there are a few caveats to this perk. The free minutes are only available to passengers staying in Concierge level suites or higher. The minutes are also doled out according to the length of the cruise.
- If the cruise lasts 1-7 nights then each qualifying stateroom will get 200 minutes.
- If the cruise lasts 8-10 nights then each qualifying stateroom will get 300 minutes.
- If the cruise lasts 11-15 nights then each qualifying stateroom will get 400 minutes.
- If the cruise lasts 16+ nights then each qualifying stateroom will get 500 minutes.
Regent is allowing this extra perk as a way to continue their quest in being the most all-inclusive cruise line. In order to offer these services, the cruise line is also undergoing major work this year on their Internet connection, including doubling the bandwidth on all ships, ensuring WiFi is available throughout the entire ship, not just public areas, and upgrading all of their ships’ Internet-related hardware such as modems and routers.
For customers that still require more Internet usage, Regent will offer an unlimited package which costs $29.99 a day, and those in Concierge suites and above can get the unlimited package at half off. There are also deals to add extra minutes if you use up all of your free minutes.
Do you prefer to stay connected while sailing or do you try to stay off the Internet during your cruise vacation?
