Princess Cruises Celebrates Diversity with New Rock Opera Production

Princess Theater aboard Sky Princess

In December of this year, Princess Cruises will debut a new and extravagant show titled Rock Opera. The production will be magnificent in every way, from its expansive soundtrack to its glamorous costume design. Considering that all members of the creative team are luminaries in their fields, guests can be assured that Rock Opera will leave them breathless. Rock Opera will take the stage for the very first time in December 2019 aboard Sky Princess, and continue to impress in June 2020 on Enchanted Princess.

A unique aspect of this show is the impressive span of the musical soundtrack. Though the title highlights opera specifically, the soundtrack covers everything from classic rock to musical theater. A goal of the production is to highlight diversity, not only with the wide range of musical styles, but also by transcending language barriers. As explained by Princess Cruises’ vice president of entertainment experience, Denise Saviss, “Sky Princess and Enchanted Princess guests should anticipate an unforgettable evening of music that transcends language and celebrates the diversity of our crew and guests from around the world. Rock Opera features songs in English, Spanish, Latin and a Princess first—sign language.”

The costume design for Rock Opera is a show in itself. Head costume designer Jackson Lowell has fashioned attire for stars, such as Elton John, as well as television productions, including American Idol. Lowell had the opportunity to let his elegant style shine through when creating the fashions of Rock Opera. Additionally, from Denise Saviss, “Our production and costume design team were inspired by one of New York City’s most glamorous evenings of the year, the Met Gala.”
Rock Opera was created exclusively for Princess Cruises by a dream team of creative minds. In addition to Jackson Lowell, the team includes director/choreographer Danny Teeson, musical arranger Nelson Kole, and scenic designer John Lacovelli. Between its members, this team has an Emmy Award, a Tony nomination, Academy Awards and experience with the highest caliber artists, from Frank Sinatra to Beyoncé. The show is brought to life on stage by World-class Rock Tenor Brian Justin Crum, of America’s Got Talent: The Champions. It’s no wonder that Princess Cruises holds the Cruise Passenger Reader’s Choice Award for Best Cruise Lines for Onboard Entertainment!
