Dublin is a very walkable city, and walking is the best way to sightsee. You can begin your tour in the charming Merrion Square – which is probably best known as the home of famous Irish poets and playwrights, including Oscar Wilde.
Art enthusiasts will definitely want to check out The National Gallery of Ireland which features paintings, drawings, and sculptures from all around Europe. If you’re fascinated by history, make sure a visit to the National History Museum is on your ‘to do’ list. In this museum you’ll see preserved mammals, birds, and fish from the Victorian era – even a giant shark that hangs from the ceiling. Be sure to bring your camera!
Next you can explore the famous Trinity College. See the famous Book of Kells, which was created in the 9th-century and contains the four Gospels of the New Testament with stunning illustrations. It’s definitely worth seeing in person!
A few blocks away from Trinity College is Dublin Castle. It was commissioned in 1204 by King John of England to defend Dublin, administer justice, and guard his many treasures. Today, some of the medieval sections are still intact.
Then, if all the walking has made you tired and thirsty – stop into an authentic Irish pub for a pint of the local brew. No trip to Dublin is complete without a stop in the pub. The Brazen Head, established in 1198, claims to be Ireland’s oldest pub, but any of the local pubs will be fantastic. You could even head straight to the source, the Guinness Storehouse, and check out the seven floors of interactive beer exhibits.
A cruise with Celebrity is an excellent way to experience many bucket list destinations while only having to unpack once.
