Princess Cruises Introduces The Salty Dog Gastropub

Pub Dining - Courtesy of Princess CruisesPrincess Cruises recently premiered their next specialty dining experience, The Salty Dog Gastropub, now aboard the Crown Princess. This new dining experience pairs small plates of gourmet pub favorites with premium cocktails, wines and, of course, Princess Cruises’ own Seawitch craft beers.

The menu and aesthetic were designed as part of a collaborative effort with Chef Ernesto Uchimura of Los Angeles, best known for his culinary masterwork at Umami Burger and Plan Check Kitchen + Bar. Consistent with Princess Cruises’ “Come Back New” mentality, guests will be encouraged to try The Salty Dog Gastropub’s new take on pub classics like burgers, short ribs, lobster mac ‘n’ cheese and more.

“A gastropub at sea is an innovative concept and it inspired me to get creative in the galley,” said Chef Ernesto Uchimura. “The Salty Dog Gastropub’s menu will not only satisfy comfort food cravings but also offer guests new pub food flavors and tastes perfectly paired with a craft beer or fine whiskey.”

Whiskey SampleSpeaking of fine whiskeys, Princess Cruises is also debuting a new international whiskey menu aboard the Crown Princess, as well as the Dawn Princess, Diamond Princess, Golden Princess, Sea Princess and Sun Princess. By mid-2016, Princess hopes to have their new whiskey menu available fleetwide, with the exception of the Pacific Princess. On top of the expansive menu of award-winning whiskeys from around the world, this new menu will also offer whiskey flights for sampling.

The Salty Dog Gastropub costs only $19 per guest and is now open aboard the Crown Princess, and will soon debut aboard the Emerald Princess and Ruby Princess in December.

“Only” $19? Isn’t that almost as much as an all – you – can – eat specialty restaurant? I don’t get it. But on a broader perspective, why are cruise lines giving us more of what we can already get on land? Cruising should be filled with unique experiences.
