In December I took a cruise on the Carnival Valor around the Caribbean. I knew that in my stop in St. Martin I wanted to visit The Butterfly Farm. I had seen it listed as a top attraction and I wanted to be inspired by their colors and possibly get a chance to hold one. So my family and I headed out to the farm which was about a 15-minute drive from the cruise terminal in Philipsburg.
Once inside the meshed garden you see the butterflies flit and flutter all around you. A guide walks you through the space showing you the different stages in the caterpillar’s metamorphosis into a butterfly and after that you are free to roam the gardens.
Here you can view some of my shots of these ethereal creatures, but I would definitely recommend this as an excursion for an hour between discovering the rest of the island or spending a day on one of St. Martin’s beautiful beaches. Being surrounded by the butterflies is an amazing experience that you just can’t get from viewing a few pictures.
Tip: Come early in the morning because that’s when the butterflies are most active.
