A handful of Cruise Web employees recently returned from the inaugural cruise of the brand new Celebrity Eclipse. The inaugural, which sailed out of Miami, provided an opportunity for employees to experience the ship before the general public. The following employees were nice enough to share their impressions:

The Celebrity Eclipse is an absolutely beautiful ship. I was very impressed with the breakfast and lunch served in the Oceanview Cafe. The staff went above and beyond for the passengers during the entire inaugural cruise, and I experienced the best service ever while dining at Murano, the French specialty restaurant onboard. I also enjoyed lying on the grass on the Lawn Club, seeing the Hot Glass Show by Corning, and relaxing by the indoor pool!

While very similar to her sisters, Solstice and Equinox, the Eclipse has some minor cosmetic differences and Qsine replaces Silk Road as one of the specialty restaurants. I love the design of the ship, the ease of getting around, the way the venues are grouped together and the fact that I never get lost. Full of light and contemporary in design, the ship still maintains a feeling of warmth.
The chairs in all of the dining rooms are magnificent pieces of furniture; I was impressed from the get go. All of the bathrooms, whether in the cabins or in public areas, have vessel sinks, not usually seen on cruise ships. The cabins themselves offer lots of storage areas and the beds are high enough to keep your suitcase under them. There are plenty of quiet places on the decks where you can find seating to read a book or have a conversation.
The Corning Glassworks from Corning New York has a glass blowing demonstration on the lawn where you can watch as the artisans create glass pieces. It is fascinating to see how they work. All in all, from the live tree suspended overhead to the art on the walls, this is one fabulous ship.

My favorite experiences on the Celebrity Eclipse were all the public spaces. I spent the better part of my afternoons just relaxing in the Passport Bar by the Grand Foyer, the Cafe Al Bacio and Gelateria, the wicker pool beds on the Lawn deck, and the pool chaise lounges on the Resort deck. In all areas, the furniture was very comfortable and contemporary in design and the service in every area was attentive and timely. When you think of relaxing on the ideal cruise, you imagine having your every need taken care of for you. The Eclipse‘s staff took that to heart and made sure no one went wanting.

I’ve been on 20+ ships for cruises, tours, inaugurals, luncheons and the Eclipse was the prettiest ship I’ve been on to date. I loved their new addition QSine, which had not been on previous Solstice-class ships. The maitre d’ spoke with us and shared his vision for the restaurant to be forward thinking, fun and different in every way with inventive display and presentation (sushi lollipops, spring rolls served in giant springs and an iPad menu). Repeated from prior Solstice-class ships was Cafe Murano which provided us a leisurely gastronomical feast over three hours. Our table was served by a Ukrainian woman who was a trained chef – she introduced each course with flair while constantly refilling our wine.
