After 20 years at sea, Seabourn is still finding new places to discover with their passengers and staff. In August the luxury cruise line announced that they will offer four sailings to Antarctica in 2013.

Norwegian Cruise Lines introduced another innovative feature for their next ship, the Norwegian Breakaway. This time the announcement was very colorful… literally. The new ship will feature signature hull artwork by Peter Max, one of America’s most acclaimed living artists, who is renowned and respected across the US for his bright and bold paintings.

As the Olympics press on, we felt it appropriate to discuss another London tradition of success: the Cunard Line. Cunard has been connected with Great Britain since its inception in 1840, when it was named the British & North American Royal Mail Steam-Packet Company, which is a bit verbose and may explain the name change. It is now British-American owned, and operated by Carnival UK.

Seabourn has recruited a diverse and expert team of guest speakers to entertain and inform passengers on their upcoming 2013 World Cruise on the Seabourn Quest. The sailing leaves from Ft. Lauderdale in January and reaches its final destination of Venice, Italy in May. In between the ship will visit Australia, India, the South Pacific and countries surrounding the Mediterranean Sea.

I have had a lot of clients ask me what I thought of river cruises and differences they can expect after years of sailing on ocean-faring cruises. Clients who have been on a LOT of ocean cruises and are somewhat experiencing “port fatigue” are really looking to other alternatives for their holidays. However, they’re hesitant to give up a lot of the conveniences that ocean cruises offer when planning a vacation. I recently returned from a river cruise through the “lowlands” of Europe this past May, and here are my thoughts if you are considering a river cruise for future travel plans. I’ll go beyond the usual “ships are smaller, the voyage is more intimate” to share some things that may surprise you.
