The big news that’s making waves among cruisers this week is Carnival Cruise Lines’ new rules on saving deck chairs. Carnival, which has a fleet of 22 ships, is one of the largest cruise lines out there, so when they make a change it affects a lot of people.
The Carnival Miracle charts a new course. Starting April 12 the ship, which will now be doing 8-day cruises year round from New York City, features the first comedy club with George Lopez serving as namesake. The Hispanic comedian famous for his ABC sitcom and TNT talk show is doing more than just adding his name to the comedy club.
Carnival Cruise Lines’ “towel animals” – whimsical terry cloth creatures that greet guests as they return to their staterooms each evening – are an iconic element of the “Fun Ship” vacation experience.
Camp Carnival Night Owls – featuring fun-filled children’s parties offering a full schedule of late-night activities and premium giveaways, along with nightly babysitting services – is being rolled out on all 23 Carnival Cruise Lines ships.
The 130,000-ton Carnival Magic, Carnival Cruise Lines’ newest ship, recently completed its sea trials in the Adriatic Sea in preparation for its May 1 debut from Europe.
Currently under construction at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy, the 3,690-passenger vessel had a full contingent of officers, technicians and engineers on board who thoroughly tested the Carnival Magic’s sophisticated navigation and mechanical systems.

With less than seven months until its maiden voyage, the new Carnival Magic reached another construction milestone when it was “floated out” earlier this week from her outfitting quay at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy.
The initial stages of a cruise ship’s construction take place in a dry dock facility. Once exterior outfitting is completed, the dry dock is flooded with water and the ship is “floated out” and moved to a wet dock facility where construction continues.
In a nod to maritime tradition, Miami Children’s Museum and Carnival Cruise Lines recently uncorked a confetti-filled bottle to launch a redesigned cruise ship–shaped exhibit where kids can sail on a sea of discovery and learn the secrets behind one of South Florida’s leading industries.
