In an industry first, Crystal Cruises is offering just six intrepid holiday travelers a new two-day excursion to the windiest, coldest and least populated continent on the planet.
In below freezing temperatures, the brand new rugged and rare overland excursion will take Crystal guests to King George Island, Antarctica. Brave adventurers will trek through remote villages and a petrified arctic forest once covered by glaciers, to scientific research bases, and to the breeding and stomping grounds of three species of penguin, elephant seals and fur seals. Available with Crystal Symphony’s 19-day Christmas/New Year cruise departing December 20 from Buenos Aires, the “Extreme Overnight Adventure in Antarctica” is limited to only six guests. -
Never in a million years would I ever think of spending the December holidays any place other than at home….. until last December when my family spent Christmas on the Ruby Princess.
When I first made the reservations I had second thoughts. I wondered how other family members would react without us there, at home. Would my two teenagers miss spending Christmas morning in their Bethesda, MD home? Would it really “feel” like Christmas being so far away from home? -
In 2006 I completed a series of classes that upon graduation, entitled me to a free cruise. The problem was that, these cruises were few and far between and only available on a first come first serve basis. Last summer an announcement came out about some availability and I jumped right on it without even knowing where or when. Much to my amazement, after trying for almost two years, I actually got through. The ship was Cunard’s QM 2 and there was a transatlantic and a Caribbean sailing that I could choose from. I selected the Caribbean, it was an 8 day leaving from New York and returning to Ft Lauderdale. The sail date was Nov 21, 2008 and it was only then that I realized I would be away over Thanksgiving. Hmm, what to do now.

Our Sales manager Michael Harris has long impressed his coworkers with his prowess at extraordinary eating. Whether it’s polishing off an entire basket of the hottest wings Buffalo Wild Wings has to offer or being a member of the Cruise Web lunch group “The Meat Heads”, Michael is always pushing his own gastrointestinal boundaries.
But this past Saturday at the Anne Arundel County Fair, Michael put his reputation on the line. As seen in this video captured by his biggest fan and wife, Michael (wearing the white shirt and black hat) clearly dusts the competition. As you can see Michael devours a quarter watermelon in under a minute. -

Onboard Ambiance: The Peace of Mind of All-Inclusiveness
Many myths exist in the luxury cruising world: very formal, stuffy, snobby, only the high-society of life books on them, etc. This is not the case. Dress aboard Silversea vessels is very similar to most cruise lines. Attire ranges from country club casual to formal depending on the night. I noticed that the average age of the guests was younger than my recent cruises on the larger lines. Many were very friendly, well educated, and very well traveled. I found that most people were intrigued and interested in my “story” as opposed to “snubbing” me because I was younger. I received a guest manifest at disembarkation and noticed that only half were from North America. This resulted in a diverse and enriching guest interaction experience.
