Wineglass Bay, Australia Cruise Port

Located on the island of Tasmania, tucked inside the Freycinet Peninsula and within Freycinet National Park is the pristine, isolated beach of Wineglass Bay. This is indeed a special stop for cruisers since several travel authorities have ranked it among the world’s top ten beaches. Surrounding the secluded cove are pink, granite outcrops known as the Hazards that rise straight up from the sea and give the beach its unique beauty and appeal. The National Park connects a portion of Tasmania’s coastline into the bay, is home to many gorgeous orchids and various wildflowers, and contains wildlife specific to the region such as black cockatoos and red-necked wallabies. Water activities practiced in and around the beach include fishing, swimming, boating, and kayaking which amount to a spectacular journey when done around those intimidating yet stunning Hazards. Other outdoorsy activities include mountain climbing and bushwhacking through the natural wilderness.

• Take in the entire cove all at once atop the Wineglass Bay Lookout. While it may be quite a hike for some, the panoramic view from the top is more than worth it.
   
• Whether you wish to hike well-worn paths or bushwhack through the unknown, Freycinet National Park is a glorious nature getaway with impressive flora and fauna at every turn.
   
• For the more experienced climber, the Mount Amos Climb is the right amount of difficulty versus reward. The steep craggy incline and slippery, rugged terrain provide an ample challenge ending with a beautiful, serene view from the top.
   
• Find the best path to the boardwalk and not far from there you’ll find the Cape Tourville Lighthouse. Here you’ll get all the view with less of the climb and be able to bask at Tasmania’s famous coastline.
