Villefranche, France Cruise Port

With a deep harbor, Villefranche has been an important port along the French Riviera. Though it doesn’t have the glitz of neighboring Cannes, Villefranche is still a coveted spot for cruisers the world over.  It is even home to notable singers Tina Turner and Bono. With its beautiful bay and old town, Villefranche has also served as a backdrop in numerous popular movies, including Alfred Hitchcock’s To Catch a Thief and the James Bond classic, Never Say Never Again. The Rolling Stones also recorded what some consider to be their greatest album, Exile on Main St, in a villa in the town.Featured below are a few of our favorite experiences for the cruise port of Villefranche, France :

• Walk around the quaint streets of the town and visit Rue Obscure, a street from the 1260s that is underneath the harbor-front houses.

• Enjoy a meal at one of the excellent restaurants that face the beautiful blue harbor.

• Check out the frescoes painted on the walls of the 14^th century Chapelle St. Pierre by Jean Cocteau, the poet and author of Les Enfants Terribles.

• Visit the Citadelle St. Elme which was built in the 16^th century. Here you’ll find a museum with a few works from Picasso and Miro.
